Overview

Being a manager is highly rewarding, but at times it can be also be challenging.

As a manager your role is to get things done through other people. Issues can, and do, arise and to be effective you need to be able to respond confidently. Highly skilled managers manage themselves and their motivation, as well as work well with others. Truly great managers never stop learning, they are continually looking for new approaches and honing their skills.

In this lively, fun and highly interactive virtual workshop, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the skills and behaviours of effective managers. You’ll build your management confidence by developing an understanding your current strengths, as well as learning new tools, techniques and strategies to help you make a real difference to your teams. Working with peers facing similar challenges, you’ll rehearse the knowledge and skills needed through real-life workplace challenges, and with access to My SmartPath through McCrudden Training you’ll have 12-months of support to help you implement your learning.

This course will enable you to

Session 1 – Being a Manager

  • Define management and effective management qualities.
  • Understand the role of managers and staff engagement (Why you matter!)
  • Understand why diversity is important, what gets in the way, and creating inclusivity.
  • Look after yourself as a manager.

Session 2 – Managing Performance

  • Understand performance and that it is good and bad. The role of the manager in supporting everyone.
  • Identify and overcome barriers to tackling under performance.
  • Start a feedback conversation in 60 seconds.
  • Demonstrate compassion to nurture and help your team.

Session 3 – Developing Others

  • Plan to delegate effectively.
  • Give instructions well and types of power as a manager.
  • Handle staff reactions to delegation.
  • Everyday coaching to support staff to “step up” to delegation.

Session 4 – High-performance Teams

  • Understand what can go wrong in teams (5 dysfunctions).
  • Create open and inclusive teams.
  • Manage different people in your team.
  • Encourage productive disagreement and manage unhelpful conflict.

Every session will include bespoke case studies, developed to reflect the types of challenges managers are facing and their concerns.  These scenarios will encourage delegates to see the practical application of learning.
